The Space Between What Was and What’s Next

by Ashley Wilson

New Year’s Eve is not about what you are chasing — it is about being where your feet are... and reflecting on what you are leaving behind.

New Year’s Eve lives in the in-between.

It is not the chaos of Christmas, and it is not the clarity of New Year’s Day.
It is the pause. The exhale. The moment where the whole year loosens its grip.

There is something honest about tonight.

The expectations drop. The pressure quiets. And instead of planning ahead, most people naturally look back — not to judge, but to understand.

What worked.
What did not.
What changed you.
What stayed longer than it should have.

And often, without trying, thoughts about home show up too.

Not just the house — but the feeling of it.

Did this space support you this year?
Did it give you rest… or demand more from you?
Did it feel grounding — or like something you had to recover from?

These are not dramatic questions. They are quiet ones. And New Year’s Eve is when they tend to surface.

Because home is where the year actually happened.

The good days.
The hard ones.
The routines that kept you moving towards your goals.
The nights you needed a comfortable place to just BE.

Sometimes the realization is simple: this still fits.
Other times, it is softer: this has been good… but it might not be forever.

And that is okay.

New Year’s Eve is not asking you to decide anything.

Not your future. Not your past.

To acknowledge what you are proud of.
To release what no longer feels aligned.
To carry forward only what still feels like yours.

You do not need a plan tonight.
You do not need certainty.
You do not need to know what comes next.

This moment is about honouring where you are — and trusting that clarity will meet you when the calendar turns.

Tonight is not about beginnings.

It is about making space for them.

It is simply a time to be where your feet are.

See you next year!

               xoxo,
                          Ashley.
